Named one of the best resorts in the world by Travel + Leisure Magazine we thought it would be good to “sacrifice” an afternoon to check out this place ourselves. Located at the foot of Camelback Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Montelucia Resort and Spa does not fail to impress.
Arriving at the resort you are immediately struck by the beauty of the location. Engulfed by Old Word Spain and Moroccan architecture, gorgeous landscaping and the awe-inspiring Camelback Mountain towering over the resort, it is hard to imagine for this place not to be on a “best-of” list.
EVENT AND MEETING SPACES
With 29,000 sq. ft. of indoor event and meeting space, secluded gardens, restaurants and private villas, there is no shortage of gorgeous spaces for any type of meeting or event. The resort too offers more than 70,000 sq. ft. of outdoor function space.
Perhaps our favorite space at the resort is the Castillo Lucena. Entering the room from the expansive courtyard, the space stuns with cathedral ceilings, exposed wood beams, and hand-laid wood flooring and oversized antique mirrors.

For large functions, at 9,200 sq. ft. the Alhambra Ballroom seems best suited. It has played host to some of the Valley’s most prestigious fundraising events. It breaks out into multiple spaces for workshops or smaller meetings. The Valencia Ballroom - 4,590 sq. ft. - opens up onto the 6,000 sq. ft. Valencia Lawn with breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain. This is a more intimate space for dinners, smaller meetings and receptions.
The Camelback Villa or Presidential Suite is a luxurious and unique meeting and event venue, providing 2,800 sq. ft. of living or function space as well as a 4,000 sq. ft. lawn. The two-bedroom, two-bathroom villa can easily be converted to host a meeting or event with privacy and convenience, all within an enclosed and exclusive area of the resort. There is also an expansive great room that can serve as a social area or be converted to a secluded meeting space.
The resort features many more small meeting rooms, boardrooms, terraces and sparkling pools for any type of function, the biggest outdoor venue at more than 30,000 sq. ft.
All rooms at the resort offer first-class amenities. From the Deluxe Resort View room to the Presidential Suite, the rooms are well appointed in classic Spanish/Moroccan-style. Balconies and patios offer ceiling fans, a much-needed amenity in the warmer Arizona months. Bathrooms have glass-enclosed walk-in showers, soaking tubs and large vanities. Some rooms and suites offer stunning views of Camelback Mountain.

Located off the Kasbah Pool, the newly opened CENTRO Lounge is the gathering spot at the resort. Guests enjoy music and media as they lounge in this modern space and sip on classic and signature cocktails. The menu from Executive Chef Michael Cairns is fresh and imaginative. A nine-panel media wall with indoor seating and lounge clusters expand in to the outdoor space. It’s the perfect place to relax and connect with friends and colleagues after a long day of meetings.
Other dining venues at the resort include the Crave Café for an on the go item. Find nutritious spa cuisine at Joya Terrace. Experience contemporary Italian flavors at the AAA Four Diamond Prado restaurant. Positioned in the front entrance of Prado is Mbar lounge, featuring Mediterranean-style tapas and a comprehensive selection of tequilas.
